WIP: Mario Blanket- Hit RESET

Well, folks. After viewing my options yesterday at my nearest yarn barn, and after discussing it with my very learned Jewish yarn guru / store owner, I decided to put aside all 35 Water Chestnut squares I crocheted in the Patton's Classic and save it for another use. I bought 4 skeins of Blossom in Wool Ease, instead.

That mean's I'll have to re-crochet the 35 I already made plus the remaining 8 that I needed to do. It sets me back a few days, but honestly, even though I love the feel of 100% wool, it will felt and get all fuzzy as time goes by (which is fine) but all the other 200+ squares I made will not. So, Mario's skin will look like it has some disease while the rest of him will look like the wool/acrylic blend that I've been using on the majority of the rest of the blanket.

Blossom is more on the pink side, rather than the peach side. Paton's has the advantage on the color I was trying to go for since NO ONE has peach except Red Heart, and we all know how I feel about Red Heart. (YUCK!) But, Blossom comes pretty close and it will match the texture of the rest of the blanket, which is more important. I hope this works!! Wish me luck, people!

This is Blossom.
Now, I'm back to 43 squares away from completion! Hey, it's been nearly 2 years! I can live with that!

  1. I def think this is the better choice. I have been obsessed with library books on my kindle lately and haven't crocheted one square. Maybe I need to get on that.

  2. Yeah, I remember what you always told me. Don't be afraid to unravel and start again!! Better a correct project than a completed one full of mistakes!

  3. I feel like choirs of angels will start serenading you once you actually finish this blanket! LOL I think it's going to be amazing when it's all done and your bro will be totally touched. Take lots and lots of pictures!!

  5. Hey, I just finished joining my granny squares and started the edging and was wondering how yours is coming along? I can't wait to see it. I totally have unraveled a few times lately. I'm also curious how you are joining them? Are you going to stitch them together or crochet them together. I've done both thus far and I must say I enjoy crocheting them together better but I think stitching them looks cleaner. I'll take a pic of the joints from crocheting and put it on my blog soon so it can help you decide.

  6. I finished crocheting all the squares last week before I left for Chicago, but I was sidetracked with the wedding box which ended up being done over there anyway, so it was like I spent all that money on materials for that box for nothing....but that's a story for another time.

I should be joining up my squares now, but all 256 of them are being held hostage in that fucking asylum in Bellerose. I don't know when I'll be able to get over there to get my stuff.

  7. That kinda sucks about the box. Can you return or reuse any of it?

At least you got your squares done. I struggled just getting my 120 done. I hated changes colors between each round b/c it added so much extra time. I used this method to join my squares and I'm much happier with it than when I stitched them together in another afghan. (http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/joining-granny-sqaures.html) It went way faster.

Where are you staying? I didn't even know you weren't in Bellerose.
